Fair Cancels, Moves Shows

In the wake of Saturday’s stage collapse, the Indiana State Fair cancels Janet Jackson and Lady Antebellum and moves Maroon 5 / Train to a different venue, transforming the show into a benefit.

As investigators continue to sift through the rubble that was the fair’s grandstand stage, State Fair officials announced that all planned grandstand shows are off and that Jackson’s Wednesday night concert as well as Lady Antelbellum’s Friday night gig have been canceled.

Fair officials have moved the Maroon 5 / Train concert scheduled for Thursday to the Conseco Fieldhouse. Officials said tickets purchased for the show will be honored at the new venue and that all proceeds will benefit the Indiana State Fair Remembrance Fund. Volunteers from Conseco Fieldhouse as well as members if IATSE Local 30 Stagehands, ESG Security, Levy Restaurants and others are volunteering their efforts in order to make the concert possible, according to the Indiana State Fair’s website.

The news comes three days after the fair’s grandstand stage collapsed shortly before Sugarland was to perform, resulting in five deaths and several injuries. The disaster is being attributed to a “fluke” weather condition that resulted in a wind gust estimated at 60 to 70 mph.
