The Crew

Of the three surviving IATSE Local 30 stagehands who were in the roof rigging when the structure toppled, Steve Stover, was in critical condition but “improving” at press time, a Local 30 spokeswoman told Pollstar.

Other staff injuries were not considered life threatening. One of at least four stagehands on the rigging, Nathan Byrd, died Aug. 14.

All four are members of IATSE Local 30 in Indianapolis.

Funds have been established to support the families of victims. IATSE Local 30 is also accepting donations, clearly marked for the Nathan Byrd Family.

A single father, Byrd leaves two teenage children. On the other side of the stage, witnesses tell Pollstar that an unidentified camera operator from DannyO Video saw the 60-foot structure waver and cleared fans from the stage right section of the VIP area in the moments before the crash, likely saving lives.

CEO Danny O’Bryen declined to comment, but numerous online descriptions of the action and reader comments commended the crewmember for saving lives and preventing further injuries.
