New Venue Taps Bob Seger For First Concert

How do you drum up interest for a brand new sports arena? Book Bob Seger for the building’s very first concert.

The brand spanking new Ford Center in downtown Evansville, Ind., will host Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band Nov. 9. Not only will the show be the Ford Center’s first musical event but it’s also the first stop on the second leg of Seger’s 2011 tour, according to the Evansville Courier & Press.

With a capacity of just under 11,000 people, the Ford Center may be one of the smallest buildings Seger plays this year, a fact not lost on VenueWorks Evansville CEO Scott Schoenike, who noted that Seger is mostly playing venues seating 15,000 and up. VenueWorks is in charge of booking the new sports arena.

“Opening up a new building is always kind of prestigious,” Schoenike told the Courier & Press. “Generally Bob Seger is not playing markets of this size or buildings of this size.”

While the Seger booking is generating a lot of press for the yet-to-open Ford Center, the concert will not be the venue’s first event. That honor goes to a University Of Evansville exhibition basketball game scheduled for Oct. 29. The venue’s official grand opening takes place Nov. 11.

Tickets for Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band at the Ford Center go on sale Sept. 24. Click here for more information.
