Closed For The Weekend
With hurricane warnings issued from North Carolina to New York, Irene’s U.S. arrival has resulted in more than 2 million people being ordered to evacuate their homes. Not only has New York City ordered more than 300,000 people living in flood-prone areas to leave, but the Big Apple will also shut down its mass transit at noon tomorrow, the first time a natural disaster has forced the city to halt its bus and subway systems.
There are some events still expected to go on as planned. As of Friday afternoon, national trade association The Broadway League said all Broadway shows scheduled for this weekend would play as scheduled.
However, the New York International Fringe Festival which is spread out over small venues has announced all of its events for this weekend, including its closing night party, are canceled.
You can also forget about seeing “Mary Poppins” or “The Lion King” in NYC as Disney Theatrical Productions cancels the productions for the weekend.
Meanwhile, the list of concerts that are postponed or canceled keeps on growing.
Jimmy Buffett’s Saturday appearance in Bristow, Va., at Jiffy Lube Live has been rescheduled for Sept. 1 and Journey’s Sunday show at that venue with Foreigner and Night Ranger has been rescheduled for Sept. 4. However, Foreigner will not appear on the new date due to a scheduling conflict.
The Crosby, Stills & Nash charity benefit concert in Wainscott, N.Y., Saturday night is a no go. Expect the show to be rescheduled.

The South Shore Music Circus in Cohasset, Mass., has canceled its Temptations / Four Tops show scheduled for Saturday and the Styx concert slotted for Sunday.
Tonight’s Mary Chapin Carpenter concert at the Sandler Center in Virginia Beach, Va., has been rescheduled for Oct. 6.
Rams Head On Stage in Annapolis, Md., has postponed tonight’s scheduled Larry Graham concert. A new date will be announced shortly. The venue has also postponed Saturday’s N’Dambi & Jay Hayden show to an undetermined date. Sunday’s Jessica Lea Mayfield performance has been rescheduled to Nov. 20.
The John Prine concert scheduled for Saturday night at the Pier Six Pavilion in Baltimore has been moved to Sept. 23.
Larry The Cable Guy has postponed his Saturday appearance at the State theatre in New Brunswick, N.J., to March 10. At least Larry gave us advance warning, unlike other cable guys.
Lyle Lovett’s Sunday night concert at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, N.J., has been canceled.
