Closed For The Weekend

That seems to be the case for the East Coast as Hurricane Irene forces most public events to reschedule or cancel.

With hurricane warnings issued from North Carolina to New York, Irene’s U.S. arrival has resulted in more than 2 million people being ordered to evacuate their homes. Not only has New York City ordered more than 300,000 people living in flood-prone areas to leave, but the Big Apple will also shut down its mass transit at noon tomorrow, the first time a natural disaster has forced the city to halt its bus and subway systems.

There are some events still expected to go on as planned. As of Friday afternoon, national trade association The Broadway League said all Broadway shows scheduled for this weekend would play as scheduled.

However, the New York International Fringe Festival which is spread out over small venues has announced all of its events for this weekend, including its closing night party, are canceled.

You can also forget about seeing “Mary Poppins” or “The Lion King” in NYC as Disney Theatrical Productions cancels the productions for the weekend.

Meanwhile, the list of concerts that are postponed or canceled keeps on growing.

Jimmy Buffett’s Saturday appearance in Bristow, Va., at Jiffy Lube Live has been rescheduled for Sept. 1 and Journey’s Sunday show at that venue with Foreigner and Night Ranger has been rescheduled for Sept. 4. However, Foreigner will not appear on the new date due to a scheduling conflict.

The Crosby, Stills & Nash charity benefit concert in Wainscott, N.Y., Saturday night is a no go. Expect the show to be rescheduled.

The scheduled for tomorrow in Flushing, N.Y., at the USTA National Tennis Center featuring performances by Jason Derulo, Cody Simpson, Diggy Simmons, Greyson Chance, Jessica Jarrell and Mindless Behavior has been canceled.

The South Shore Music Circus in Cohasset, Mass., has canceled its Temptations / Four Tops show scheduled for Saturday and the Styx concert slotted for Sunday.

Tonight’s Mary Chapin Carpenter concert at the Sandler Center in Virginia Beach, Va., has been rescheduled for Oct. 6.

Rams Head On Stage in Annapolis, Md., has postponed tonight’s scheduled Larry Graham concert. A new date will be announced shortly. The venue has also postponed Saturday’s N’Dambi & Jay Hayden show to an undetermined date. Sunday’s Jessica Lea Mayfield performance has been rescheduled to Nov. 20.

The John Prine concert scheduled for Saturday night at the Pier Six Pavilion in Baltimore has been moved to Sept. 23.

Larry The Cable Guy has postponed his Saturday appearance at the State theatre in New Brunswick, N.J., to March 10. At least Larry gave us advance warning, unlike other cable guys.

Lyle Lovett’s Sunday night concert at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, N.J., has been canceled.

The concert scheduled for Sunday in Albany, N.Y., at the Times Union has been moved to Sept. 4.

The Dave Matthews Band has postponed two of its three festival dates at Governors Island in New York City. Although today’s Caravan  takes place as planned, Saturday and Sunday have been postponed. Tickets for Saturday and Sunday are being honored at today’s Caravan.

Tonight’s Jeff Foxworthy appearance at the Harrington Raceway and Casino in Harrington, Del., has been postponed to a date to be determined.

Central Park Summerstage events planned for this weekend, including the and Sunday’s concert featuring Jagged Edge, Avant and Melanie Fiona have been postponed.

The Afro-Punk festival scheduled for New York City this weekend and featuring Janelle Monáe, Santigold, Das Racist and Toro Y Moi has been canceled. HMag Fest scheduled for Hoboken Saturday and featuring The Walkmen has been postponed and will take place in September on a date to be named later.

Craig Campbell has canceled his Sunday concert planned for Caesars Atlantic City.

The Lynyrd Skynyrd concert scheduled Sunday at the Borgata Hotel, Casino & Spa in Atlantic City has been rescheduled for Oct. 1. Ditto for Donny Osmond who was to perform Saturday night but is now scheduled for Oct. 9. Meanwhile, Borgata’s Music Box has canceled Frankie Valli’s appearances scheduled for this weekend.

The NYCB Theatre at Westbury, N.Y., has moved Sunday’s ZZ Top concert to Monday and canceled Saturday’s show featuring Bill Medley and Paul Revere & The Raiders.

The scheduled for Saturday in Crownsville, Md., at the Anne Arundel County Fairgrounds is no longer happening.

The scheduled for this weekend at Francis Farm in Rehoboth, Mass., will now take place Sept. 30.

The , featuring Avenged Sevenfold with mainstage bands Three Days Grace, Seether, Bullet For My Valentine and Escape The Fate has moved its Sunday show at the Comcast Center in Mansfield, Mass., to Aug. 30.
