Jane’s Addiction On Voice Watch

On Saturday the band issued an official statement announcing that they wouldn’t be able to play the NME/Radio 1 stage at Richfield Avenue in Reading. According to NME, fans were informed about the bad news shortly after the band was scheduled to take the stage.

The statement explained that singer Perry Farrell couldn’t perform “due to the severe swollen condition of his throat.” It went on to say that although Farrell had been treated earlier that day by top London physicians, he was “completely unable to produce any sound vocally.”

By Sunday, Farrell wasn’t doing any better and the band was forced to cancel its performance at Bramham Park in Leeds.

The group issued another statement offering their “sincere apologies” to fans, according to NME.

“This morning in London his doctor determined that Perry Farrell’s vocal condition remains unchanged from last night. Farrell has been ordered to not use his voice until further notice for risk of vocal damage. His condition remains day to day.” 

Guitarist Dave Navarro posted a portion of the statement on his Twitter page Sunday and added, “We are gutted that we cannot perform at Leeds tonight, but we gotta take care of our boy.”

The guitarist has since continued to keep fans up to date through his Twitter page.

The next Jane’s Addiction show is scheduled for Tuesday in London at Koko. On Sunday Navarro tweeted that there is “no news on Koko show as of yet, this is a day by day thing …”

Later that night he checked in with fans again, writing “BTW Jane’s UK fans, no updates as of yet #voicewatch2011”

Early Monday he added, “Waiting on an update from Perry’s doctor … Stay tuned.”

Navarro’s most recent update on Perry’s condition came in the form of a reply to a fan. After a fan asked, “can we say no news is good news?” the guitarist simply said “Hoping so …”

As of the time of this Pollstar.com post, Jane’s Addiction was still scheduled to perform in London on Tuesday.
