Adele Is Still Sick
The postponements have pushed back Adele’s U.K. September tour, which was scheduled to begin Sept. 4 in Plymouth.
Over the weekend an announcement on the singer’s website broke the news to fans that Adele was calling off the Plymouth show as well as a Sept. 5 gig in Bournemouth because of a severe cold and chest infection.
She has since postponed a concert scheduled for Wednesday in Cardiff as well as a Thursday show in Blackpool. Adele also canceled her performance at Tuesday’s Mercury Awards show.
The most recent announcement noted that Adele is extremely sorry and apologizes for any inconvenience. To really get her point across, Adele posted a picture of herself with a sad frown, holding a piece of paper that declared “I’m So Sorry.”
On Sunday she posted on her blog about her illness, writing that she was “as useless as a slug right now.” She noted that the cold had made its way onto her chest, leaving her breathless. Adele added that she couldn’t hold any of her notes when she tried to sing and that she didn’t sound like herself.
Adele posted again on Wednesday, saying that she was still breathless and that her chest felt disgusting.
“I’m not doing half hearted performances for anyone. If I try to do a show like this it’ll be rubbish and I won’t be coming back this year and I don’t want [to] leave you like that. If I postpone I’ll come back very soon when I’m well and do it how I normally do it. Please forgive me, I hate canceling things as you know.”
She explained that the cold was not related to her bout with laryngitis earlier this year, which forced her to miss several U.S. dates.
An announcement on Adele’s website says the U.K. shows will be rescheduled at the earliest opportunity and all tickets will remain valid. Refunds are also available from the point of purchase.
Adele’s next show is Saturday in Wolverhampton, United Kingdom, at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall. U.K. dates are booked through Sept. 25. A run of U.S. dates is scheduled Oct. 7-21.
