Igloo Appeal Dismissed

A federal judge dismissed Sept. 9 an appeal by Pittsburgh preservationists trying to stop the demolition of Mellon Arena, former home of the NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins and nicknamed the “Igloo.”

The Preservation Pittsburgh group reportedly appealed to federal court because it claimed the demolition project would need federal funds.

However, U.S. District Judge David Cercone ruled the federal court has no standing in the case as the Sports and Exhibition Authority that owns the arena hasn’t applied for said funding.
