A Show To Kill For
Robert Lyons of Carol Stream, Ill., used to share a condo with his mother, Linda Bolek. But that was two years ago and Lyons is now on trial for murder. DuPage County prosecutors claim that on March 14, 2008, Lyons twice hit his mother in the head with a champagne bottle then stabbed her nine times in the back, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
Prosecutors contend that Lyons, who reportedly suffers from bi-polar disorder, became violent when Bolek refused to ask a friend of hers for skybox tickets to see Lavigne. After killing his mother, Lyons reportedly poured household chemicals on her body, changed his clothes and went shopping, only to be arrested later that day while hanging out at a Hooters restaurant in Schaumburg, Ill.
The prosecution contends that after killing Bolek, Lyons called several friends and told them he struggled with his mother after she attacked him with a kitchen knife.
“He blocked the knife – and somehow the knife ended up in her back,” Assistant State’s Attorney Ann Celine O’Hallaren told jurors, according to the Sun-Times.
Meanwhile, Lyons’ court-appointed attorneys are saying Lyons’ actions were not planned and that on the day Bolek died, she argued with Lyons while holding a kitchen knife to his face.
“She threatened to stab him in the eye, Rob Lyons reacted,” Assistant Public Defender Valerie Pacis said, claiming his “reaction was not intended; that reaction was not planned.”
