Country Legend Johnny Wright Dies
Country legend Johnny Wright, known for performing with his wife, Kitty Wells, and duo Johnnie & Jack and at the Grand Ole Opry, died of natural causes Sept. 27 at his home in Madison, Tenn.
Wright, 97, first partnered with Jack Anglin to form Johnnie & Jack in 1939 along with performing with Wells and his sister, Louise, as Johnny Wright & the Harmony Girls.
Johnnie & Jack’s “Poison Love” landed the duo and Wells invites to join the Grand Old Opry in 1952.
Wright went solo after Anglin’s death in 1963. He and the Tennessee Mountain Boys had a Top 25 hit with “Walkin,’ Talkin,’ Cryin,’ Barely Beating Broken Heart” in 1964 and a No. 1 hit with “Hello Vietnam” in 1968.
He and Wells continued to perform together until 2000.
