Gaylord Halfway To Rockies

Gaylord Entertainment is halfway to getting the financing needed to build a 1,500-room hotel and convention complex in Denver.

The Tennessee-based company, which operates the Opryland resort in Nashville, got approval from Denver suburb Aurora Sept. 26 for an economic incentive package, according to the Tennessean. The entire package could be worth $500 million and Aurora has requested $85.4 million in state sales tax subsidies from the State of Colorado.

The Colorado Economic Development Commission said it expects to make a decision on the request by the end of the year, according to the paper.

Gaylord says the incentive is crucial for the $824 million project. The company plans to break ground next year and open doors in 2015, the Tennessean said.

Aurora’s city council approved the package unanimously after nobody spoke on it at the public hearing.
