Beach Boys Prepping For 50th Anniv.
Seems as if every time members of The Beach Boys talk to the press about the band’s 50th anniversary plans, a quote from Wilson inevitably puts the kibosh on any speculation that he may rejoin his former group.
In 2010 London’s Sun newspaper quoted Beach Boy Mike Love reportedly telling the Las Vegas Sun that Wilson would “rejoin” the group. However, the ink barely had time to dry before Wilson posted a statement on his website quoting Love as saying “At this time there are no plans for my cousin Brian to rejoin the tour.”
One year later Wilson, along with surviving Beach Boys members Love, Al Jardine and Bruce Johnston gathered at a Capitol Records studio in Los Angeles to re-record the group’s 1968 song “Do It Again,” reports Rolling Stone. But while the session was filmed for a promotional video, Wilson apparently still isn’t interested in any long-term commitment.
“No. There’s been talk that I was going to join the Mike Love group but it’s not true,” Wilson recently told Q Magazine, according to RTT News.
Further driving the point home was a recent Wilson quote Rolling Stone included in its piece about The Beach Boys’ 50th anniversary plans in which the music legend said he was “not particularly” looking forward to the milestone. However, Wilson did leave at least one door open to a possible reunion.
“I don’t really like working with the guys, but it all depends on how we feel and how much money’s involved,” Wilson said, according to Rolling Stone. “Money’s not the only reason I made records, but it does hold a place in our lives.”
