A.C. Nielsen Jr. Dies

A.C. Nielsen Jr., the name behind Nielsen SoundScan, died at 92 Oct. 4.  Nielsen, who was suffering from Parkinson’s disease, died where he lived most of his life in Winnetka, Ill.

Nielsen was responsible for turning his father’s marketing firm into the company that has had so much influence on what we watch on television. The company also has backed SoundScan, the music industry standard for measuring the sales of recorded music. A detailed obit is available at the New York Times.
