Eddie Goes To Duluth
Eddie Owen, owner of the well-known
The Duluth City Council approved a short-term management agreement with Owen regarding the city’s Red Clay Theatre Oct. 10, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The theatre is characterized as “much-maligned” and the city wants to turn it into an entertainment destination.
“I’m now a freelancer, I now have wings and I’m looking to fly to Duluth,” Owen told the council. “I’ve never ever experienced the infrastructure in place like it is here in Duluth.”
Under the deal, Owen would offer live music at the venue most nights and possibly develop a school that would serve children and young adults interested in the music industry.
Owen’s plan prevailed over two other management proposals that called for more theatrical stage events at the facility.
The Red Clay Theatre has reportedly been a thorn in the side of the city for many years. Duluth spent more than $2 million on the venue since 2004 with limited success, according to the Journal-Constitution.
