Petty, Heartbreakers To Headline SoCal Radio Station Benefit

Your only chance to see Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers this year may very well be in a small venue in Southern California.

Petty and the band are headlining the first-ever KCSN-FM benefit, scheduled for Oct. 29 at the 500-seat Plaza del Sol Performance Hall located on the California State University, Northridge campus.

Nabbing Petty for a public radio station benefit isn’t something that happens every day, a fact KCSN program director Sky Daniels, whose own radio experience dates back to the days when he and Nikola Tesla were on a first-name basis, is well aware of.

“Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers are not only one of the greatest bands of all time, they are true believers in the power of rock n’ roll,” Daniels said in a statement. “For them to selflessly want to perform this show speaks volumes for their love of music, and their willingness to support KCSN’s effort to build a radio station devoted to breaking new artists, supporting local artists, and respecting great legacy artists.”

Tickets will be sold during KCSN’s membership pledge drive taking place Oct. 14 through 23. While a portion of proceeds will benefit NPR’s Music Initiative, the drive will also aid KCSN’s growth initiatives, including signal improvements and community outreach.  Visit KCSN.org for more information.
