Probation For Bouncers?

Victoria state coroner Jennifer Coate recommended new laws for the nightclub security business in Australia.

She said new bouncers should be put on probation to check if they can cope with crowds.

Coate made the comments while conducting the inquest on Jerry Karamesinis, who died after being pushed by a security guard outside Frankston’s 21st nightclub in May 2007 when he and friends were refused admission.

The inquest heard that none of the more than 20,000 people who hold a license to be a crowd controller in Victoria is tested for suitability to work in the industry.

Figures showed 35 people died in the state after disputes with bouncers in the last 10 years – and the dead were males primarily between 18 and 34 years old.
