LPA Warns Against Scalpers

In a full-page newspaper ad, peak industry body Live Performance Australia warned consumers against dealing with unauthorised ticket sellers.

It specifically named Sydney-based Ticketfinders.com.au.

In a follow-up story, The Australian newspaper cited an example of farmer Steve Taylor, who paid $622 to Ticketfinders for a pair of Bon Jovi tickets last year. These turned out to be worth $99 each, and were later invalidated by Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium. He has not gotten a refund.

Australian ticket reseller Ticketman, which launched in March for people to buy and sell tickets at the last minute, admitted in a statement that one in 10 of its transactions has been fraud, with the buyer not receiving tickets.

It suggested to its 8,000 subscribers they meet their buyer “in person” when getting tickets. This has led to criticism this could be dangerous.
