Tyler Discusses Fall
Steven Tyler called in to the “Today Show” this morning to talk about his fall earlier this week. During the interview he assured fans he was sober at the time of the accident.
The
Tyler was treated at a local hospital and released the same day. The show, which marked the band’s second stop on its South American tour, was rescheduled for Wednesday.
The singer told “Today Show” host Matt Lauer that his fall was a result of some bad food poisoning.
“And it just so happened that I got that, what’s it called when you eat something – Montezuma’s Revenge. I took a walk with the Incas for 48 hours,” he said.
“I was in the shower and I got nauseous. And I started to get sick and I fell on my face, I just passed out. And I woke up with the water running on me, wondering where the hell I was. And the next thing you knew my tour manager was calling the American Embassy and we found the best hospital.”
In addition to having his two lost teeth replaced with dental implants, Tyler also received four stitches near his eye.
Lauer noted that based on pictured of the accident, some fans might question whether Tyler’s injuries were due to a fall in the shower or a fall off the wagon.
The singer pointed out that someone who used substances wouldn’t be up at that hour “having a talk with Matt Lauer and the rest of America” after flying in to Argentina from Paraguay. Tyler acknowledged that although it bothers him a little bit, he knows that he’ll have to deal with questions about his sobriety for the rest of his life.
Aerosmith is scheduled to play Buenos Aires, Argentina, Friday with a show at Hipodromo De La Plata. The South American tour includes upcoming dates in Brazil, Panama, Colombia and Ecuador. The band will wrap up the year with shows in Mexico and Japan.
