Blush Push For U.S.

Blush, the pan-Asian girl group based in Hong Kong formed by a previous president of Walt Disney’s Asia-Pacific unit, managed to score Snoop Dogg as a guest on the group’s debut single, “Undivided.” It reached No. 3 on the Nielsen Soundscan Dance Club chart.

The five members range in age from 19 to 28 years old and hail from Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea, India and the Philippines.

They are slated to open for the Black Eyed Peas at their upcoming Manila concert and have already appeared with Justin Bieber when he recently played Hong Kong.

John Niermann, who created the group, told Reuters his goal is to make Blush, the only group of its kind in Asia that performs completely in English, “big in the United States” before anywhere else, including Asia.

For that reason, he’s hired songwriters and producers who’ve had proven success in America.

However, so far he’s promoted the group through contacts he made at Disney, mostly with the help of merchandising deals and endorsements.

Though they’ve played clubs in Southeast Asia, Blush spends most of its time on the U.S. West Coast, where they’ve targeted the region’s ethnic Asian community.

The idea, according to Niermann, is to be wholesome enough for Disney but edgy enough to appeal to people who like Snoop Dogg.
