The Wall Goes Outdoors?

An announcement is expected to be made Tuesday at Chicago’s Wrigley Field. Chicago press is speculating the news is about Roger Waters.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Live Nation is holding a press conference at Wrigley Field Tuesday morning. The promoter, which produced Waters’ “The Wall Live” tour, says the big news is about a “major concert announcement” including at least one concert at the ballpark in summer 2012.

The Chicago Sun-Times points out that Waters recently talked to Rolling Stone about showing off Pink Floyd’s 1979 album at baseball stadiums as part of a 2012 U.S. tour.

“There are quite a few markets we didn’t cover last time, like Austin,” Waters said in an interview posted on RollingStone.com late last month. “But we want to base the tour around Saturday nights in baseball stadiums. As we speak, I’m at my office working on an outdoor version of the show.”

Waters explained that light tests had been done at Wrigley Field as well as Boston’s Fenway Park and New York City’s Yankee Stadium.

“And it’s fine. It works. We’ve taken part of the Wall and the projectors into those three places.”

The Wall Live tour kicked off in September 2010 with three shows in Toronto, which were followed by four nights in Chicago at the United Center. Waters has since taken the tour to Europe and South America.

The next leg of the tour begins in January with shows in Australia and New Zealand. In March Waters is off to Chile followed by Argentina and Brazil.
