Wallflowers Reunion In The Works

Dylan recently told Rolling Stone The Wallflowers are set to start working on a new album in January. The band hasn’t released a studio album since the group’s fifth album, 2005’s Rebel, Sweetheart.

“I’ve got new songs and we’ve all been talking,” Dylan said. “We’ve been trying to carve that time out for a while.”

The singer/songwriter clarified that he never suggested that The Wallflowers were breaking up.

“We all felt we were losing the plot a little bit and we needed a break. And that year break becomes two years, then becomes three years, and before you know it five or six years go by pretty quickly. I can’t do what I do in the Wallflowers without them. I miss it.” 

The Wallflowers last toured in summer 2009. Dylan toured on his own in 2010 in support of his second solo album, 2010’s Women + Country. Last weekend Dylan opened for Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers as part of two benefit shows for Los Angeles-based radio station KCSN-FM.

Los Angeles-based band Everest performed with Dylan at the benefit shows and will join him on a set of Midwest tour dates this month that begins with a Nov. 9 gig in Columbia, Mo., at The Blue Note.

Dylan and Everest will also play Newkirk, Okla. (Nov. 10); Concho, Okla. (Nov. 12); Kansas City, Mo. (Nov. 13); and Bloomington, Ill. (Nov. 14). On Nov. 11 Dylan will open for Willie Nelson in Thackerville, Okla., at Winstar World Casino.
