No Cop For Tiki Taane

Chart-topping rapper Tiki Taane, who had a run-in with New Zealand police in April, held out an olive branch.

He asked members of the force to join him onstage when he performed “Freedom To Sing” (a song inspired by that run-in) at the Vodafone NZ Music Awards at Auckland’s Vector Arena.

But the men in blue politely declined.

The rapper was arrested when he sang NWA’s “Fuck Tha Police” while cops arrested rowdy audience members at a nightclub in Tauranga.

Charges were dropped in September after mediation, when Taane explained the song was part of his set and not intended to annoy them when they entered the club.

He is up for best male solo artist, best electronic album and best Maori album at the Nov. 3 awards ceremony.
