Rob Thomas Sings For Sidewalk Angels

Rob Thomas is returning to a couple of the venues he played as part of last year’s Sidewalk Angels Foundation tour for a handful of additional benefit shows.

Proceeds go toward the Sidewalk Angels Foundation, which was founded by the matchbox twenty frontman and his wife Marisol. The non-profit organization provides funds and support to grassroots groups across the U.S. Sidewalk Angels supports and sponsors no-kill animal shelters and animal rescues in addition to causes including childhood health and wellness and the fight against homelessness.

The benefit shows include one Dec. 30 gig in Uncasville, Conn., at the Mohegan Sun Arena followed by two performances in Atlantic City Jan. 6-7 at Borgata Hotel, Casino & Spa / Music Box.

The gigs are expected to feature career-spanning sets. Thomas has released two solo albums, including 2009’s Cradlesong, in addition to matchbox twenty’s three studio albums. Matchbox twenty has been in the studio working on a new album scheduled for release in 2012.

“It’s a chance for me, as a songwriter, to really highlight lyric and melody and to create different versions of songs that I’ve been playing for years,” Thomas said.

Tickets go on sale Saturday.
