The Swedish heavy metal group was forced to drop off the in August in addition to canceling its own U.S. headlining shows because of a terminal illness in a bandmember’s immediate family. The band apologized to fans at the time and said they would return to the U.S. next year.

The 2012 headline tour kicks off Jan. 12 in Milwaukee at The Rave Eagles Club. The last date on the routing is Feb. 21 at Chicago’s House Of Blues.

In Flames will also play Baltimore (Jan. 14); Philadelphia (Jan. 15); Atlanta (Jan. 18); Houston (Jan. 20); Minneapolis (Jan. 24); Seattle (Feb. 3); San Francisco (Feb. 6); Albuquerque, N.M. (Feb. 9); Worcester, Mass. (Feb. 17); and New York (Feb. 18).

Canadian shows include Winnipeg, Manitoba (Jan. 25); Edmonton, Alberta (Jan. 27); Vancouver, British Columbia (Jan. 31); Toronto (Feb. 14); and Montreal (Feb. 15).

The tour features Trivium, Veil Of Maya and Kyng as support.

The band is so excited about the new dates that they released the following statement including three exclamation points:

“In Flames strikes back!!! After a nice but curtailed summer mayhem, we will return to American soil with full force. Expect riffs, sweat and beers so tasty that you’re ready to give up everything and move to Gothenburg. Just to have another fix.”
