Vote Today On Sioux Falls Arena
Voters in Sioux Falls have started heading to the polls to decide the fate of a $115 million events center.
Residents are being asked to approve a proposal that would help pay for the center through a city sales tax already in place.
Superintendent Pat Baxter says there has been a steady stream of voters at the precinct he oversees since the polls opened at 7 a.m. Polls close at 7 p.m.
Supporters of the 12,000-seat project say it would energize the economy and put the city on the national map for sports and entertainment. Some opponents are unhappy that the chosen site is not downtown. Others say the city should focus on areas other than entertainment.
The measure needs a majority of voters to pass.
