Cumberland Upgrades Approved
Voters in Portland, Maine, and its neighboring cities approved Nov. 8 a $33 million bond to renovate the
Bond supporters backed up the plan to renovate the 34-year-old, 8,726-capacity venue so keep the facility competitive, according to the Portland Press Herald.
Upgrades to the arena, home to the American Hockey League’s Portland Pirates, will include new premium seating areas, an enlarged lobby, wider concourses, improved concessions, an upgraded box office, improved dressing rooms and restrooms, improved accessibility for handicapped patrons and enlarging the loading dock.
The bond for the project will be funded mostly with funds from a Cumberland County Jail bond that the county retired earlier this year, the Herald said.
