S.F. Examiner Sold

Clarity Media Group, Philip Anschutz’s media holding company, sold Nov. 11 the San Francisco Examiner to a consortium led by Black Press Group.

Clarity Media CEO Ryan McKibben said it no longer made sense to have a single newspaper on the West Coast. The company will now focus on its Washington D.C. market and recent acquisition of the Oklahoman.

Clarity purchased the Examiner from the Fang family in 2004.

The deal with British Columbia-based Black Press and partners is expected to close Nov. 30. Details of the agreement were not disclosed.
