Knowles’s New Destiny

Artist manager Mathew Knowles is back in the girl-group business with his latest project with MTV called “Breaking From Above.”

The father and former manager of Beyoncé said there’s a lack of girl groups these days, so he’s launching the reality show that follows the development of the British pop group From Above and the seven women competing for a spot.

“Most reality shows are about putting together groups, this is the opposite,” he said in a recent interview. “When you look at reality shows, [the success] comes overnight, and it goes away overnight because there was never artist development.
“[With my new group] there’s something here, but true success in this industry is about a six-year process.”

“Breaking From Above” is scheduled to air over MTV affiliates in 160 countries, including the U.K., Spain and Italy starting this month.

Knowles currently manages younger daughter Solange Knowles.
