Murphey Keeps The Ball Rollin’
Over the weekend Michael Martin Murphey disembarked on his Cowboy Christmas Ball. The musician, whose hits run from “Wildfire” to “Carolina In The Pines,” has made it a tradition to take the Ball on the road for the past 19 years.
“The first time I came to the annual Cowboy Christmas Ball in Anson, Texas, where the community has celebrated the holidays with this event every year since 1934, I was floored that the community had worked so hard to keep it going,” Murphey said. “I fell in love watching the older couples dance and the dances being passed on to the younger people. It reconnected me to the tradition.”
This year’s tour began Nov. 25 in Greeley, Colo., and continues through Dec. 23 at the Avalon Theatre in Grand Junction, Colo. Along the way it visits Oklahoma, Texas and New Mexico among its stops.
The tour coincides with the release of Murphey’s Acoustic Christmas Carols: Cowboy Christmas II.
