Maple Like A Tree And…

Ryerson University in Toronto is changing the name of its Maple Leaf Gardens facility.

The building, built in 1931, will house a new athletic facility and a new hockey rink and will be renamed the Peter Gilgan Athletic Centre at the Gardens.

Ryerson has been in a legal dispute with Maple Leafs Sports & Entertainment, which owns sports teams the Toronto Maple Leafs and Raptors.

The latter objected to the use of the Maple Leaf name, concerned that the 2,600-seat hockey rink could compete with its Air Canada Centre, according to The Globe and Mail. University President Sheldon Levy told the paper Ryerson is “very, very close” to an out-of-court solution.
