Nightclub Owners Protest New Rules

Melbourne’s Nightclub Owners Forum wrote to the Australian state of Victoria Premier Ted Baillieu asking for an amendment to the new gambling and liquor regulation bill.

Forum convener Peter Iwaniuk said under new rules, operators could be charged if a patron used obscene language inside the club, or started brawling outside.

The impact of the new definition of “amenity” is that it will give police unprecedented powers over all licensed venues, and enable serious abuse and misuse of police powers, Iwaniuk suggested.
