Bronfman Steps Down As WMG Chairman

Edgar Bronfman Jr. announced in an internal email that he is stepping down as chairman of the board of Warner Music Group Jan. 31.

Bronfman reportedly said he will remain on as a board member, and there was no mention of his successor.

“As my other obligations are beginning to take an inordinate amount of time, I have asked to step down as WMG’s board chairman, effective January 31, 2012,” Bronfman said.

Bronfman bought the company from Time Warner in 2004 and sold it in May. In the process, he switched his role from CEO to chairman. Stephen Cooper is current CEO.
