Odds & Ends – Gene Simmons, Sinead O’Connor And Underworld
Gene Vs Madge
Apparently KISS’ Gene Simmons isn’t all that thrilled about Madonna nabbing the headlining position in Super Bowl XLVI. The bassist reportedly compared her to karaoke singers, according to TMZ.
Evidently the celebrity gossip website caught up with the KISS-man last night in Hollywood. When asked about the Material Girl’s upcoming Super Bowl appearance, Simmons had plenty to say.
“I love all karaoke singers, I love all the girl singers who get up and sing with tapes … shame on you!” Simmons responded before adding the postscript, “By the way, Madonna’s terrific … I hate the tapes.”
Super Bowl XLVI takes place Feb. 5 in Indianapolis at Lucas Oil Stadium.
Yet Another Hubby For Sinead
Sinead O’Connor is reportedly set to marry husband No. 4 tomorrow – which just happens to be her 45th birthday.
The Irish singer posted a message on her website saying she would marry “beloved boyfriend Barry Herridge” in an “undisclosed location.” O’Connor called the pending ceremony her “absolute dream wedding.”
Although O’Connor didn’t disclose the wedding location on her website, she evidently had no problem with broadcasting the destination. The Irish Independent newspaper reports she revealed on RTE Radio that the wedding would take place in Las Vegas.
Underworld Rises For Olympics
Brit electronic music pioneers Rick Smith and Karl Hyde, better known as Underworld, have been tapped to serve as music directors for the Olympics 2012 opening ceremony in London.
The duo will be working with filmmaker/producer Danny Boyle. Boyle, who won an Academy Award for directing the 2008 hit “Slumdog Millionaire,” has a history with Underworld and featured the group’s “Born Slippy” in his 1996 flick, “Trainspotting.” Boyle and Underworld also collaborated on the soundtracks for “A Life Less Ordinary,” “The Beach” and “Sunshine.”
“We want to leave people with a musical memory of the show rather than a purely visual one,” Underworld’s Hyde said in a statement. “It’s a great honour to be asked to do this and one we’re taking very seriously – it’s certainly not something we’ll get the chance to do again.”
