Kid Rock & Romney Proud To Be ‘Born Free’

Mitt Romney showed off his pick for his official campaign theme song earlier this week – Kid Rock’s “Born Free.” The rocker, a fellow Michigan native, shared his thoughts on the matter with a blog post on his website.

“Born Free,” the title track of Kid Rock’s 2010 eighth studio album, was played Tuesday as Dan Quayle endorsed the Republican presidential candidate in Arizona, according to the Washington Post.

A campaign spokesman for the former Massachusetts governor confirmed the tune was Romney’s official campaign theme to the Detroit News, which pointed out that Romney is the son of former Michigan Gov. George Romney.

Earlier this year Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers and Katrina & The Waves’ Katrina Leskanich both demanded that Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann stop using the acts’ tunes at campaign stops. Turns out that Kid Rock, on the other hand, is just fine with Romney using his song.

Kid, who previously expressed his support for former President George W. Bush in the 2004 election, posted a statement on his official website Wednesday titled “Mitt Romney and Born Free.”

“He and anyone else who wants to use my song do not need my permission. I said he could use it and I would say the same for any other candidate. I have to have a little faith that every candidate feels like he or she can help this country. Without faith, we got nothing. I make music to have it be heard. Merry Christmas folks! Rock on.

“PS: Any candidate who makes ‘So Hott’ their theme song has a good chance of getting my vote.”
