Odd Future Death Threats
Calum Bennachie, the gay activist who started the successful campaign to drop Odd Future from Big Day Out’s New Zealand show early 2012 over homophobic lyrics, is a target himself.
He says he’s got “several” death threats from the act’s fans.
“Too often gay men are targeted as objects of violence or ridicule in the streets, the perpetrators feeling safe in doing so because of the messages in hate music,” Bennachie told the New Zealand Herald. “I hope that by now, Big Day Out have learned their lesson, and will not continue to bring over music that specifically threatens people with violence.”
