Atmosphere, Common To Warm Up Red Rocks In January

If you usually think of Denver’s picturesque Red Rocks Amphitheatre as being a summer-only venue, then think again. Atmosphere and Common will perform at the venue in January. Yes, that’s right. January.

Presented by Denver-based skiing company Icelantic, the inaugural “Winter On The Rocks” is set for Jan.. Also on the lineup are Grieves And Budo and Get Cryphy.

Partnering with Icelantic is concert heavyweight AEG Rocky Mountains, according to Denver NBC TV affiliate KUSA 9 News, which reports the show will take place in conjunction with the SIA SnowShow trade show happening at the Colorado Convention Center.

Logistics for Red Rocks’ first-ever winter music show will be somewhat different than for summer concerts. A media specialist involved with the extravaganza said no economic impact estimates are available and that Red Rocks would have to bring back its summer staff or hire temporary workers for the event.

According to the Weather Underground archives, the mercury reached 55 degrees Jan. 27, 2011 and 41 degrees one year earlier to the day. Meanwhile, we’re contemplating the sound of gloved hands clapping.

Tickets are priced at $39.50 and are on sale now. Visit IcelanticsWinterOnTheRocks.com for more information.
