Eight others who had been building the stage were injured and the show was pulled as the local authorities began investigations.

The Italian media is saying that the famous singer-songwriter, who’s one of the country’s biggest live attractions, has suspended the rest of his tour “until further notice.”

“My pain is for Francesco Pinna, the worker-student,” he said in a Tweet mourning the death of the 20-year-old stage builder.

Italian news agency ANSA reported that rescue crews said the stage was nearing completion when the front buckled and collapsed, crushing workers with scaffolding.

Even if the stage could have been fixed, the concert would still have been canceled because the entire area would need a thorough inspection.

At press time it wasn’t possible to get comment from tour promoter Trident Agency.
