Smothers Brothers On Silver Screen?

George Clooney and Smokehouse Pictures’ Grant Heslov are said to be collaborating to produce a movie about the Smothers Brothers.

The script will be based on David Bianculli’s book “Dangerously Funny: The Uncensored Story of The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour,” according to The Wrap.

The Smothers Brothers’ show was canceled after two seasons for angering CBS censors by injecting commentary on the Vietnam War and other hotbed topics during the weekly variety series.

In that time, though, the brothers – who recently hosted the Pollstar Awards show – made an indelible mark in music history with their show, from Pete Seeger’s controversial performance of “Waist Deep In The Big Muddy” to the truly explosive performance by The Who.
