Odds & Ends: Madonna, Justin Timberlake, Kid Rock and Courtney Love
Madonna Still In Bed With Live Nation
Madonna’s new album should be in stores by late March. That’s the word from Interscope Records which announced today that the Material Girl has signed a three record deal with the label.
Interscope described the deal as “one component of a very broad plan developed by long time manager Guy Oseary and Live Nation Entertainment.” In 2007 Madonna was one of the first top-tier artists to sign extensive agreements, called “360 deals,” with Live Nation that cover albums, touring, merch, websites, fan clubs and more. Artists and bands with similar arrangements include Jay-Z and Nickelback.
The first single from the new album – “Gimme All Your Luvin” – will be released during the last week of January, hitting stores just a few days before her upcoming Super Bowl halftime appearance
As to Maddy’s tour plans; a routing described as a “rough draft” of her 2012 road plans emerged on a fan site in October showing her launching her journey in Auckland, New Zealand March 31 and beginning the U.S. leg in July in East Rutherford, N.J. Attributed to an “undisclosed source” the word at that time was that all would be revealed during an Oct. 31 press conference that never materialized.
Timberlake Tees Up A Promotion
Golf equipment manufacturer Callaway Golf has appointed Justin Timberlake to be the company’s new “creative director.”
Timberlake is no stranger to Callaway Golf. The company has had a relationship with the singer since 2008. A multi-year deal, Timberlake will be involved with the company’s “high-level concepts” as well as consult on “visual representation of the Brand.”
“We have worked with Justin for more than three years now and have been thoroughly impressed with the level of quality he brings to everything he is involved with,” Callaway Golf Sr. VP of Global Brand And Product Jeff Colton said.
“Justin is an extremely gifted artist and an avid golfer with a deep passion for Callaway products, and his creative energy will serve us well as we connect with the next generation of golfers.”
Landlord Has No Love For Love
A New York newspaper claims Courtney Love is facing eviction from her Big Apple residence.
The New York Post’s “Page Six” column says Love is being evicted from her “West Village townhouse” because the Hole singer/guitarist/leader “set it on fire” and “ruined” its professionally designed décor.
According to the Post, owner Donna Lyon has gone to court claiming Love has damaged the property and owes more than $50,000 rent. Love has reportedly been living in the place for 10 months, paying $25,000 per month rent.
Evidently Love has painted and wallpapered the townhouse in violation of the lease which reportedly states such improvements are verboten.
“Courtney has wallpapered and painted a large portion of the property without my consent,” Lyon said. “I learned about this when I wanted to sell the house and had photographs taken. They sent me the brochure and I said, ‘This can’t be my property.’ I came to New York to see it and I was horrified by what she had done. The walls that had been hand-painted and glazed were ruined, covered in damask wallpaper and ice-blue paint.”
Lyon claims it could cost as much as $100,000 to restore the townhouse to its pre-Love condition.
Kid Rock’s Latest Charitable Endeavor
Love him or hate him, there’s no denying that Kid Rock often utilizes his celebrity status to help those in need in his hometown of Detroit. During his recent tour, Rock, in association with various Detroit business folks, was able to raise more than $375,000 for local charities via his Kid Rock Foundation.
More recently, Rock has been helping the Motor City’s poverty stricken by handing out $25 gift certificates good at Midwest hypermarket chain Meijer. Rock is distributing the gift cards via local radio stations.
This isn’t the first time Rock has helped feed the poor during the holidays. For Thanksgiving 2010 he distributed 1,000 meals via the gift card approach.
