Deadmau5’s Ultra Ultra Rant
Deadmau5 took off his mouse ears to post a 12-minute video last week bad-mouthing Ultra Music Festival.
The DJ/producer is no stranger to the Miami electronic festival. Before headlining the 2011 edition, Deadmau5 also played the 2010, 2009 and 2008 events.
In his YouTube video Deadmau5 suggested that fans should attend Ultra – but only if it’s their first experience with the festival.
“Ultra to me is the definition of insanity: Doing the same f**king thing every year, expecting different results every time. It’s fun and it’s cool, and if you’ve never been, go. But if you are one of those dudes that go every year, it’s like why would you go again?” he said according to the Miami New Times.
Deadmau5 complained about the $599.95 VIP ticket prices as well as the event’s exclusivity contracts, which he explained prevents headliners from playing other Miami venues during the festival.
After Deadmau5 posted the video late last week, it has since been taken off YouTube with a note saying, “This video is no longer available because the YouTube account associated with this video has been terminated.”
On Dec. 30 the Canadian electronic music star posted the following update on his Facebook page, which could be referencing the 12-minute rant.
“Anyway, just gunna wrap up these shows this year n try to have a little fun. I’ve been dealing with severe depression and anxiety all year. Taking a long time off after my birthday to hopefully get it sorted out before I say or do anything more stupid than I already have.”
When contacted for a response to Deadmau5’s video, Ultra’s press representative said, “No statement is available.”
The 2012 Ultra Music Festival takes place March 23-25 at Miami’s Bayfront Park. The first phase of the lineup was announced last month featuring Tiësto, Kraftwerk, Justice, Avicii, Skrillex, David Guetta, Kaskade and many more acts. The second phase of the lineup is coming soon. Who wants to bet Deadmau5 won’t be included in that announcement?
Some fans don’t seem to have a problem with Ultra’s ticket prices. The 2012 VIP tickets have officially sold out. Three-day general admission tickets are still available for $299.95.
In 2011 Ultra expanded to a three-day event and sold 150,000 tickets, selling out six weeks before the event.
