Odds & Ends: Metallica, Wakarusa and Jason Derulo
Metallica confirms that it’s making a 3D movie; Wakarusa Festival unveiled its first list of artists this week and a neck injury means Jason Derulo won’t be performing anytime soon.
Metallica’s 3D Experience
Saying it’s not accustomed to responding to rumors, the Metallica camp responded to a rumor today, posting a message on the band’s official site confirming reports that a 3D movie is in the works.
From Metallica.com:
“Happy New Year!!! As you know, we generally make it a policy not to comment on gossip or rumors, but we also pride ourselves on being first with ’Tallica news. So, with that said, the more astute of you may have noticed a couple of mentions in trade publications, and most recently in the new issue of Rolling Stone, that a Metallica 3D movie is in the works. Were here to tell you that, yes, there is indeed a 3D project in the very early stages of production! We wish we could tell you more right now, but we don’t have all the finer points nailed down just yet. What we can tell you is that we are planning on being in a theatre near you sometime in 2013 and as you hear us say ever so often, this will be the space for all the details as we finalize them.”

Wakarusa’s First Volley
The friendly folks at Pipeline Productions have released their first list of artists for Wakarusa 2012. The promotion company’s 2012 master plan for heartland dominance calls for three lineup releases with No. 2 and 3 scheduled for Jan. 12 and 19, respectively.
Taking place May 31-June 3 on Mulberry Mountain near Ozark, Arkansas, the first artist announcement includes Pretty Lights, Weir, Robinson & Greene Acoustic Trio,
Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, G. Love & Special Sauce, Balkan Beat Box, Beats Antique, Railroad Earth, Mimosa, SOJA, ALO, Keller Williams, and Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit.
As with many festivals, Wakarusa’s ticket prices will increase as we move closer to May 31. At this time the festival is offering full event passes for $149 and VIP passes beginning at $505. Expect three and two-day passes to go on sale soon. Visit Wakarusa.com for more info.

Fractured Neck Sidelines Jason Derulo
We’re not sure as to what type of move Derulo was working on when he had his mishap, only that CNN reports that he wasn’t supposed to land on his head. Derulo was taken to a hospital where doctors determined he had fractured one of his vertebras.
“The pain of letting you down cuts me way deeper than this injury I’ve sustained,” Derulo said in a statement announcing the bad news. “My fans mean everything to me, so I’m praying for a speedy recovery in order to perform for you in the near future.”
Although the above statement is the official apology for canceling the tour, we’re kind of partial to the message Derulo posted on his website along with a photo depicting the artist lying on his back while wearing a neck brace.
