AEG Puts Brick In Minneapolis

When Jane’s Addiction announced dates for its upcoming tour, it inadvertently let slip another surprise – apparently, AEG is making plans to open a new venue in Minneapolis.

While nobody at AEG is talking, for now at least, sources told the Star-Tribune that, indeed, a new venue called The Brick and appearing on the band’s itinerary, will be an AEG facility.

A public hearing on the venue, reportedly under construction for some months now, is scheduled Jan. 19. The Star-Tribune further reports that licensing documents confirm that the tentatively 2,100-seat venue would be run by AEG, which also manages the city-owned Target Center.

A public-hearing notice describes the Brick as offering “a performing arts center, live entertainment including vocals and instrumentals of all genres, concerts, comedy shows, art exhibitions and corporate and private parties,” according to the paper.

The Brick would likely go head-to-head against the 1,500-capacity First Avenue and 2,800-cap Epic Event Center. But at least First Avenue GM Nate Kranz doesn’t appear too worried about the competition.

“We’ll just practice business as usual, and I think we’ll be fine,” Kranz told the Star-Tribune.
