Lupe Sues Nonprofit

Lupe Fiasco, whose real name is Wasalu Jaco, is suing an educational nonprofit for breach of contract and fraud for canceling his headlining concert with less than 24 hours’ notice.

The lawsuit, filed in New York federal court by Jaco’s loanout company FNF Touring, accuses Transform America of canceling a Nov. 7 benefit concert appearance at NYC’s Terminal 5 “without cause” and falsely blaming the mess on the rapper.

“Defendant, by its own admission, canceled the Event due to lack of funding but posted a false statement on its website that Artist canceled the Event due to illness,” the complaint says. “Per Plaintiff’s request, Defendant removed the false statement from its website but then circulated the same false statement via electronic mail to ticket holders.”

The lawsuit also alleges that Transform America’s attorney told Jaco’s rep “just imagine all the bad press your client will get for suing a non-profit.”

The lawsuit seeks more than $66,000 in lost income and expenses for travel, attorney’s fees and other costs.
