A Magikal Death Cab Tour
The Magik Magik Orchestra, which describes itself on its Facebook page as “a collective of players who perform live onstage and in the recording studio to produce unique artistic projects,” provided the string arrangements on Death Cab’s most recent album, Codes And Keys. The group also worked with Ben Gibbard and the gang on their recent installment of “VH1 Storytellers” in addition to previous collaborations with artists including Mike Patton, John Vanderslice, The Walkmen and The Dodos.
Members of Magik Magik will accompany Death Cab on stage during the spring tour that begins April 10 in Denver at Ellie Caulkins Opera House.
Stops along the route include Omaha, Neb., at the Omaha Civic Music Hall April 11; Louisville, Ky., at The Louisville Palace Theatre April 13; Providence, R.I., at Veterans Memorial Auditorium April 23; New York City’s Beacon Theatre April 27; Mesa, Ariz., at the Ikeda Theatre May 6; Oakland, Calif., at the Fox Theater May 8; and Portland, Ore., at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall May 11.
Canadian shows are booked April 19 at Toronto’s Massey Hall and April 20 in Montreal at Eglise St. Jean Baptiste.
The last date on the tour is May 13 in Seattle at the Paramount Theatre.
Before the tour begins Death Cab plays Australia Feb. 17-27, followed by gigs in New Zealand, Taiwan, Philippines and Singapore Feb. 29 through March 7.
In addition to playing the Perth International Arts Festival Feb. 17-18, upcoming festival appearances include San Miguel Primavera Sound in Barcelona, Spain, May 30 and the Optimus Primavera Sound in Oporto, Portugal, June 7.
Fans can tune in to PBS Feb. 17 to watch Death Cab on “Live From The Artists’ Den.” The band’s full-length episode, filmed at the Brooklyn Museum, is also streaming now on Hulu.com.
The pre-sale for the band’s official fan club, DCFC Union Local #1138, begins Friday at 12 p.m. local venue time. All remaining tickets will go on sale to the general public beginning Jan. 27.
