Sweetwater Reborn
A shuttered Mill Valley, Calif., club with a history of performances by artists including John Lee Hooker, Bonnie Raitt, Elvis Costello and Jerry Garcia will get a second act thanks to a group of investors including Bob Weir.
The former Sweetwater Saloon is being reborn as the Sweetwater Music Hall in Mill Valley’s 107-year-old Masonic Lodge following a renovation.
“For years, the Sweetwater was the place many of us local and visiting musicians headed to when we were looking to play for fun,” Weir said. “Well, our clubhouse is back – and it belongs to all of us.”
The all-ages venue will feature a café and nightclub with high-tech sound and video, capable of streaming events to broader audiences
The Sweetwater is also expected to offer residencies and master classes in addition to concerts.
Some of the first shows on the books include The Outlaws, Steve Kimock, Loudon Wainright and Mark Karan.
