Forecastle & My Morning Jacket Announce Collaboration

My Morning Jacket will be sticking around the band’s hometown of Louisville, Ky., the first weekend of July to headline the 10th anniversary of the Forecastle Festival.

The festival takes place July 13-15 at Louisville’s 85-acre Waterfront Park.

In addition to headlining Saturday, July 14, the rock band will also help the producers curate the festival.

JK McKnight, Forecastle Founder and Director of National Partnerships for AC Entertainment, explains that My Morning Jacket will “collaborate on many aspects of the festival as well – from booking bands to choosing philanthropic partners – helping us craft the best Forecastle experience ever. There’s certainly no group I would rather share this moment with than them.”

The lineup, including additional headliners and over 75 bands, will be announced in the coming weeks. The festival plans to mark its 10th year by paying “homage to its past, present and future, while highlighting the best features of Louisville and Kentucky, in addition to Forecastle’s maritime theme.”

To give you an idea of the type of bands you might see, the 2010 lineup featured Smashing Pumpkins, The Flaming Lips, Widespread Panic, Spoon, DEVO, She & Him, Drive-By Truckers and Bassnectar.

Tickets go on sale Friday, including a limit quantity of $100 weekend passes.

“Expect a few surprises,” MMJ frontman Jim James said. “This is something we’ve wanted to play for a long time, and plan to make it very special. It’s an opportunity to show people what Louisville is all about, and why this is such a special city.”
