Mogwai’s 2012 Plans

Mogwai is headed to the U.S. in late May to make up a set of shows that were postponed twice last year. The Scottish post-rock band has also announced new performances in the states and Canada including gigs in San Francisco, Atlanta, Toronto and Chicago.

The postponed gigs in New York City; Philadelphia; Washington, D.C., and Boston were initially put on hold because of “an unforeseen delay” in processing band members’ visas. After announcing the rescheduled dates, the shows were postponed once again because of medical reasons.

“We can’t apologise enough to the people who arranged travel and bought tickets to see us,” Mogwai’s Stuart Braithwaite wrote. “Both of these postponements were completely out with our control and the shows would not have been postponed if there was anyway possible to make them happen. That said we realise fully how disappointed people were who had bought tickets only to find out very close to the shows that we were postponing. In light of this we are very happy to announce the rescheduled dates along with new dates for next May and June. It will likely be the last extensive touring we do for some time so we hope it will be a very special tour.”

Following Mogwai’s appearance at All Tomororow’s Parties’ “I’ll Be Your Mirror” in London May 26, the North American tour begins May 29 in Vancouver, British Columbia, at Commodore Ballroom. Additional Canadian gigs were announced for Montreal’s Metropolis June 17 and Toronto at Phoenix Concert Theatre June 18.

The first U.S. date on the routing is Portland, Ore., at Wonder Ballroom May 30. The band’s June calendar features new shows is Los Angeles (June 2); Solana Beach, Calif. (June 3); Atlanta (June 8); and Chicago (June 20).

The Washington, D.C., show at the 9:30 Club will now take place June 11, followed by the rescheduled Philadelphia gig at Union Transfer June 12. The band’s two-night stand at New York City’s Webster Hall has been moved to June 14-15 and the show at Boston’s House Of Blues is set for June 16.

Pre-sale tickets go on sale Wednesday, Feb. 1. Tickets for the original Boston and Washington, D.C., shows will be honored at the door.

Last year the group released its seventh studio album, Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will, on Rock Action Records / Sub Pop.
