Odds & Ends: Spice Girls, Paul Weller, Dierks Bentley and Miranda Lambert
Scary Spice Talks Reunion
The Spice Girls might reunite for Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee. That is, if an off-the-cuff utterance made by member Melanie B (Scary Spice) is on the mark.
Currently touting the benefits of the Jenny Craig weight loss program, Mel B., recently appeared on Australian television program “Sunrise,” saying she had lost 8 kilograms (17.6 pounds) in two months. However, it wasn’t until deep within the interview when the Spice Girl mentioned a possible reunion gig.
Responding to a question about whether the Spice Girls might do a reunion tour in Australia or perform at the London Olympics, Mel B. may have let the proverbial feline out of the satchel. After talking about the Spice Girls stage musical and how she’s “always down” for a possible reunion, Mel B. was asked again about rumors that the ladies might reunite at the Olympic Summer Games.
“Well, we do have the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee coming up,” Mel. B. said, before adding, “Whoo, did I really say that?”
Apparently, the Spice Girl was concerned that she gave the TV audience too much information, reports Rolling Stone, and that her loose tongue might cause some problems between her and her girl-power comrades.
“I am going to be in such strife for saying that,” Mel B. told the program’s crew. “It’s all so totally bloody top-secret still.”
Paul Weller’s Two For The Road
Sometimes all it takes to get our collective pulses racing is an email sporting a well worded subject header promising good things to come, perhaps something along the lines of “You’ve just won a million dollars” or “Nigerian bank has money for you!”
So you can imagine our delight when an email landed in our inbox this morning declaring, “Paul Weller Announces Only North American Shows For 2012.”
With visions of Weller conducting a short tour through the U.S. and Canada, we immediately clicked on the message. But alas, the current North American tour plans for the former singer for The Jam are a bit more limited in scope.
As it turns out, the “only North American shows” for this year are two shows at one venue in one city – May 18 & 19 at Best Buy Theatre in New York City.
Weller is doing the shows in support of his upcoming album, Sonik Kicks, scheduled for a March 27 release on Yep Rock Records. Evidently two dates in NYC are more than enough for Sonik Kicks to become a nationwide best seller.
The shows go on sale Feb. 2 at high noon EST. Visit PaulWeller.com for more information.
1 Show Announced, 19 To Go For Dierks Bentley
Today Bentley alerted the media to the spring leg of his “Country & Cold Cans” tour by announcing the journey’s kick-off date – April 13 in Los Angeles at Nokia Theatre L.A. Live. As to the other 19 dates, today’s announcement promises that information will be released “in the coming weeks.”
Joining Bentley will be Eli Young Band and a “combination of Will Hoge and The Cadillac Black in the opening slot.”
Tickets for the Los Angeles show go on sale Feb. 10. For more info, check out DierksBentley.com.
Miranda Lambert Reschedules Weekend Show
The death of a childhood friend has resulted in country artist Miranda Lambert rescheduling a weekend gig.
Lambert was originally scheduled to play Florida’s Tallahassee-Leon County Civic Center Feb. 3. However, the recent death of her old friend Mark “Tex” Adams in a traffic accident has resulted in the show being pushed back until May 17.
Adams’ death is the second loss for the songstress this month. Her father-in-law, Dick Shelton, passed away Jan. 18.
“I have lost a friend I’ve had since 3rd grade today in a tragic accident,” Lambert tweeted Jan. 26. “When will this pain end. Please pray for peace.”
Tickets purchased for the Feb. 3 concert will be honored on the new date. Click here for more information.
