Entertainment Barge To Be Sold
A southern Indiana city plans to sell a barge it bought last year because the cost of turning it into a floating concert stage would be too steep.
Jeffersonville Mayor Mike Moore says the estimated $2.3 million cost of renovating the barge is too much for his Ohio River city. He says he’s negotiating with a potential buyer who wants to use the barge as an entertainment vessel on a lake in Kentucky.
The News and Tribune reports Moore’s predecessor bought the barge last year for $370,000. The plan was to turn it into a
replacement the city’s 70-year-old RiverStage barge that’s used for
concerts, movies, plays and other warm-weather events.
Moore has hired an inspector to determine what repairs might be needed to upgrade the aging barge.
