Studio Engineer Bilecki Dies

An unsung hero of the music industry passed away during the weekend. Known for his work in the studio as well as on live recordings, Latin Grammy winner Martin Bilecki was 52.

The list of artists Bilecki worked with is almost infinite. As a live sound mixer, monitor engineer and production provider Bilecki crossed paths with many major acts, including Alice Cooper, Montgomery Gentry, Patti LaBelle and Anthrax.

Bilecki received Latin Grammy Awards for his work with Los Horoscopos de Durango, Alacranes Musical and Grupo Montez de Durango.

The founder of Chicago-based Performance Recording and Sound in 1991, Bilecki was remembered by friends as a “big, huggable teddy bear of a guy” who was always quick with a kind word or a joke. A posting on Paul Revere & The Raiders’ website recalls Bilecki as a “one of those rare people who loved his job so much that it made you happy just to be around him.”
